What can you do in the Zillertal?
The front section of the valley around Fügen and Kaltenbach is the entrance to the Zillertal: lively villages in the valley, quiet hamlets such as the Fügenberg on the sunny slope, and above them the Spieljoch and the Hochzillertal mountains.
You can ride the Spieljochbahn up the family mountain, wind along the Zillertaler Höhenstraße, dive into the adventure spa or chug through the valley on the steam train of the Zillertalbahn. Each destination below has a link to the official provider and a route planner – also handy once you are already there.

From the valley loop to the Alm
Easy paths along the Ziller, Alm hikes on the Fügenberg and tours in the Tux foothills – the front Zillertal is made for walking.
Zillertaler Höhenstraße
One of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the Alps: bend after bend up to over 2,000 metres, with Alms to stop in at and starting points for high-altitude hikes.
Pankrazberg loop on the Fügenberg
Across meadows and hamlets to the pilgrimage church of St. Pankraz high above the valley – the quiet loop on the sunny slope, with a place to stop in right next to the church.
Adventure trails for families
Play stations, water spots and short loops on which children forget that they are hiking – the tourism association has the overview.

If today may be a summit day
With the Spieljochbahn up the family mountain
Straight up from Fügen: at the top an adventure park, easy summit paths up the Spieljoch and Onkeljoch and the view over the whole front Zillertal await.
Gilfert, Kellerjoch and the Tux foothills
Real summit destinations for experienced walkers – from the grassy mountain Gilfert to the Kellerjoch on the border with the Silberregion. Start early and take the weather forecast seriously.
Flying tandem above the valley
Up with the lift, a few running steps, then the canopy carries you – and beneath you lies the whole Zillertal. You do not need to know how to fly: on a tandem flight you sit at the front and look, the pilot behind you does the rest.
Bike
Off by bike – and back with a good feeling
On the Zillertal cycle path through the valley
Flat along the Ziller from village to village – and when your legs are tired, take the Zillertalbahn back. Also easily doable with a bike trailer.
By bike up the Höhenstraße
The classic for road bike and e-bike: bend after bend up to over 2,000 metres, with Alms as a reward and a long view over the valley.
By e-bike to the Alms
From the valley up over the Fügenberg to working Alms – pedal up, stop in, roll out. With an e-bike also for leisure riders.
Water
An afternoon by the water is almost always possible

Day trip to the Achensee
Tyrol’s largest lake lies just beyond the valley exit – shore paths, boat trips and a grand mountain backdrop for a whole holiday day.
Winter
When winter begins outside the hut
Hochzillertal-Hochfügen ski area
Over 100 kilometres of pistes directly above Kaltenbach and Fügen – wide carving pistes, modern lifts and ski huts with a reputation.
Spieljoch family ski area
Manageable, sunny and without long waiting times – ideal for families and children’s first turns.
Tobogganing, winter hiking and cross-country skiing
Natural toboggan runs, cleared winter paths and cross-country trails in the valley – winter works here even without skis.

How to get to the Zillertal
By trainTo Jenbach by long-distance train, then on with the Zillertalbahn to Fügen-Hart or Kaltenbach. Whether the last stretch to your specific hut makes sense without a car is stated honestly right at the accommodation.
On site with bus and guest cardThe Zillertalbahn and regional buses connect the villages in the valley – and with your host’s guest card there are discounts at mountain lifts and excursion destinations.
By carA12 Inntal motorway, Zillertal exit at Wiesing – you reach Fügen after a few minutes. From Munich you are there in about 1.5 hours.
