Why Austria is a good solo travel destination
Austria is a beautiful country to travel solo: situated in Central Europe, easy to navigate, safe, and with a train network that gets you from Vienna to Innsbruck and into every mountain valley. A solo trip to Austria does not need a hostel: a small hut or holiday apartment gives every solo traveller a place of their own – with hosts next door if you like company.
Hike, mountain bike and cable car from the door
Hiking trails start at every hut, the cable car takes you up to the high alpine meadows, mountain biking starts on the forest road. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road, the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Karwendel are a day trip away, Innsbruck and the Tyrolean old towns half an hour. An itinerary that mixes tranquility at the hut with Austrian mountain adventures – and the picturesque places without the touristy crowds.

Which huts suit solo travellers?
Small huts or apartments for one to two people, clear access, shopping nearby and a location that matches your mountain experience.
Do I automatically pay more alone?
Many prices apply per hut, not per person – small houses usually make more sense for solo travellers than large group accommodations.
Secluded or close to the farm for the first trip?
For your first solo holiday, being close to the farm or a short access road is usually more pleasant. Later you can choose more remote huts.
Can I get there without a car?
At some huts, yes – by train to the valley and bus or pick-up to the hut. Which ones they are is listed on the page Getting there by train and bus, and we tell you exactly before booking.
Who can be reached if I need help?
With every hut we state how far away the hosts are and how you reach them. For remote huts we also note what the mobile reception is like.
Is there a minimum stay?
Depending on house and season, two to seven nights; it is listed with the accommodation. For a few days during the week it is best to ask us briefly.
