At 1,700 metres, 20 kilometres of pistes begin at the house, plus cross-country trails between 1,550 and 1,750 metres and a floodlit sledding run. Inside a private sauna, four stone-pine bedrooms, room for eight – by car right to the door all year.

Sunny seclusion at 960 metres for six, with barrel sauna and hot pot outdoors. Snow outside, 38 degrees in the tub – the evening most people imagine when they think of a snow cabin. The dog may come.

Seclusion above the Inn valley for up to seven persons, the cross-country trail is three minutes away. After skiing into your own sauna, the dog romps in the fenced garden in the snow.

The smallest hut in our selection: 20 m² for two, wood stove, hand-painted bed, almost secluded at the Karwendel Nature Park. Reachable from Terfens station in 30 to 45 minutes on foot, by car right to the door.

A hut that has already seen 400 winters, alone on the slope above Bischofshofen, for up to six persons. Barrel sauna and hot pot stand in the snow at the door, the Hochkönig opposite.

Secluded log cabin at 890 metres, built for two: private hot tub in the bathing barrel, red kitchen, bench in front of the door. Sit in the warm water while the snow lies all around.

Winter access – and what you should know before setting off
Winter tyres and a little time
Most huts you reach by car to the door, with winter tyres and at some with snow chains or four-wheel drive. At some the car stays in the valley and the host picks you up with a tractor or snow groomer – this is stated for every hut.

Arrive in daylight, especially with fresh snow. The first hour at the hut belongs to arriving: light the stove, unpack, enjoy the view from the window – and the parlour is already warm.
The big shop in the valley
Do a big shop in the valley, then you have everything up there. Ask us what is already at the hut – often there are eggs, milk, bread and bacon from the farm next door, firewood is ready.

Cabins and chalets in Austria: what makes a good cabin vacation in the snow
Rustic or cosy – both are in Austria
Alpine cabins in the Austrian Alps come in two kinds: the rustic mountain hut with wood stove and bunk beds, and the cosy chalet with fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms and a spa area. We show both honestly – the traditional alpine chalet in the middle of the forest as well as the modern chalet apartments in the Kleinwalsertal. What each cabin offers, from the well-equipped kitchen to the private outdoor sauna, is stated with every accommodation.

Our cabins sit close to the ski areas of Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia: Mayrhofen and the Zillertal from the Breitberg Alm, the family pistes around Innsbruck from the Karwendel huts, the Hohe Tauern National Park from the Zarze, the Turracher Höhe from the Nockberge. Ski lifts are a short drive away – and the toboggan run or the winter hiking trails often start right outside the front door.

What is a snow cabin?
With us a wooden hut where you live for a whole week while the snow lies outside – with stove, own kitchen and own key, reachable in winter and with sledding run, cross-country trail or piste nearby.
Can I drive right to the hut in winter?
At most, yes – Pietschacher Almhütte, Breitberg Alm, Oberbrixen Hütte and Berghütte Artlieb are reachable by car all year, with winter tyres and sometimes chains or four-wheel drive. At some the host picks you up in the valley. This is stated for every hut.
Which hut is right on the piste?
The Pietschacher Almhütte on the Hochrindl in Carinthia: ski-in and ski-out with 20 kilometres of pistes, plus 20 kilometres of cross-country trails and a floodlit sledding run. In the Kleinwalsertal, ski bus and cable cars are included at the six lodges.
Is there a snow cabin with sauna?
Yes, several: Pietschacher Almhütte with Finnish sauna, Kochhäusl and Alpenrehblick with private sauna, Oberbrixen Hütte and Berghütte Artlieb with barrel sauna and hot pot outdoors, the Tiroler Hütte with hot tub in the bathing barrel.
May the dog come along in winter?
At many of our huts, yes. The Alpenrehblick even has a fenced garden – ideal when everything around is snowed in. Every hut states whether and how many dogs are welcome.
Can you reach a snow cabin without a car?
Yes: you reach the Kochhäusl and the Waldhüttl by train, the Breitberg Alm via the Zillertalbahn with pick-up, and in the Kleinwalsertal the bus stops in front of the lodge. How it works at your hut is on the hut page – just ask us.
