Waldhüttl, Karwendel
20 m² at the edge of the forest, a moss-covered roof, a fireplace and the trail at the door.
See the hutA cabin in the woods is a different kind of quiet from a hut on an alp. No wide view, no wind – instead the sound of the trees, mushrooms in autumn and deer at the edge of the clearing in the early morning. Ten of our houses have forest at the door, from 20 square metres for two to a whole alp for ten.
From the edge of the forest in the Karwendel to a pond in the Mostviertel.

See the hut„A cabin in the woods" sounds like one thing and means three. It is worth knowing which one you are booking, because they feel completely different.
In the forest. Trees on every side, a small clearing in front of the door. Cool in summer, dark early in the evening, very quiet. That is the Waldhüttl and the Abenteurer-Hütte.
At the forest edge. Meadow in front, woodland behind. You get the light and the view and still have the trees two minutes away – the three farms in Gnadenwald and the Waldsicht work like this.
Mountain forest. Higher up, where the trees thin out towards the alpine meadow. The Alpenrehblick and the Breitberg Alm sit right on that line.
The Waldhüttl in the Karwendel is 20 m² with a moss-covered roof, a fireplace and a barbecue spot – the smallest thing we have and the quietest. If you want the same forest with a whirlpool on the terrace, the Tiroler Hütte is a few minutes away.
In Gnadenwald, three houses stand on working farms with woodland behind them: Alpenfamilienglück for up to five, Waldsicht and Pferdeheimat for up to three each. Animals, meadow and forest – with children that is usually enough of a programme. For a bigger group there is the Alpenrehblick for seven and the Breitberg Alm for ten.
The Mühlenhütte in the Mostviertel is the only one of its kind we have: forest all around, your own pond in front, a rowing boat and a historic water wheel. Open from April to November. Worth saying out loud: with children, the water belongs on the supervision list.
We have walked the last stretch of every one of these tracks. We know which one is dark at four in the afternoon in November and which clearing gets the evening sun. Ask us before you book.
The Waldhüttl in the Karwendel and the Abenteurer-Hütte on the Geißenberg come closest – forest on every side and no other building in sight. The Mühlenhütte in the Mostviertel has forest all around and its own pond in front.
Two of them. The Waldhüttl is 20 m² built for two, and the Tiroler Hütte in the Karwendel is a chalet for exactly two with a private whirlpool.
Ours are not. All of them have a clearing or a meadow in front, which is what makes the difference between living in the forest and living under it. In the photos you can see where the light comes from.
Ticks are a real thing in Austrian woodland from spring to autumn – long trousers on walks and a check in the evening. Mosquitoes are mainly an issue near the water at the Mühlenhütte, and only on still summer evenings.
To the Abenteurer-Hütte and the Kochhäusl, yes – by train and a short transfer. The three farms in Gnadenwald are reachable by bus from Hall in Tirol.
At almost all of them, usually for a small fee per night. The Alpenrehblick has a fenced dog garden, and at the Waldhüttl the forest starts at the door.
Tell us how many of you there are and whether you want trees on every side or a meadow in front – we will tell you which of the ten fits.
