Christmas at the hut: this is what the days from 23 to 27 December look like
A Christmas market on the day before the feast, a quiet Christmas Eve by the stove, sledding and winter paths on the holidays – and punch in the warm parlour in the evening. That is how our guests spend Christmas in the mountains – in Tyrol, the Salzburg region, Carinthia and the Kleinwalsertal. All of it lies right outside the door at our huts.
23 DecemberOne more visit to the Christmas market
The last market day before the feast: Schwaz, Hall or Rattenberg are a short drive from our Tyrolean huts. The 23rd is also the best day for the big shop – then everything is at the hut from Christmas Eve on.

A walk in the snow in the afternoon, then it gets dark early and the parlour is the most beautiful place. A Christmas tree is already waiting at many huts – if you like your own decorations, bring them along. An evening entirely for you – in peace, by the warm stove.

Cleared paths, crunching snow, sun on your face. At many of our huts the winter path begins right at the house – at the Karwendel, in Gnadenwald or above Bischofshofen. Then sauna and an early evening.

26 DecemberSledding on St Stephen's Day
Walk up, laugh down – St Stephen's Day belongs to the sledding runs. On the Hochrindl the run begins at the door, in the Alpbachtal and around the Karwendel it is a few minutes away. Sleds can be borrowed from many hosts.

Christmas with children is easy at the hut: build a snowman at the door, sled in the afternoon, visit the animals in the stable at the farm. At the Riedhof and in Gnadenwald horses, chickens and cats are part of farm life.

The evenings are long and that is the best thing about the mountain winter: punch by the tiled stove, a sauna session, then out once more to look up at the starry sky. Several of our huts have a hot pot or hot tub in the snow.

Renting a hut over Christmas: what you should know before booking
A week with a fixed arrival day
Over the holidays almost all hosts rent by the week, usually Saturday to Saturday around 19 or 21 December. That way you have all the holidays at the hut – and the exact period is stated for every accommodation.
Sort out tree and decorations beforehand
Many hosts put a Christmas tree in the parlour, others get one on request. Ask us before booking – we sort it out for you. If you like your own decorations, bring them along; in wooden huts LED candles are used for that.
Winter tyres and a little time
Most huts you reach by car to the door. At some the car stays in the valley and the host picks you up with a tractor or snow groomer – this is stated for every hut and for many guests it is the nicest part of the journey.

Christmas in Austria is celebrated quietly and at home – and a hut is the best place for it. The festive season starts with the advent market in the village, the nativity scene under the tree and Austrian christmas traditions like carols on Christmas Eve. A traditional christmas holiday in the Austrian Alps means: snow-capped mountains outside, the wood stove inside and the whole family at one table.
Christmas markets in Innsbruck and Salzburg
Several of our huts by the Karwendel are half an hour from Innsbruck, the Tyrolean capital: a stroll through the old town, the Golden Roof, the christmas markets in Innsbruck with mulled wine – Glühwein – and apple strudel, the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens next door. From our huts in the Salzburg region, the fortress and the christmas markets of Salzburg, the city of Mozart, are within easy reach.
White christmas and a day on the slopes
A white christmas is likely in the Austrian mountains, and the ski resorts of Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia are close to our huts: a day on the slopes on Boxing Day, playing in the snow with the children, tobogganing in the afternoon. Christmas in the Austrian Tyrol or in the Salzburg mountains combines the winter wonderland with festive evenings in the hut.

Yes, all our huts are self-catering huts with their own kitchen. With the big shop on 23 December you are supplied over all the holidays. At many farms there are eggs, milk, bread and bacon straight from the farm.
