New Year's Eve at the hut: this is what the days between the years look like
Snowshoes and sleds on the days before, the last sunset of the year from the balcony, punch and sparklers at the door at midnight, first in the fresh snow on New Year's morning. That is how our guests spend New Year's Eve in the mountains – in Tyrol, the Salzburg region, Carinthia and the Kleinwalsertal. All of it lies right outside the door at our huts.

Between the years the day belongs to the snow: snowshoe hiking in the Karwendel, cross-country skiing in Gnadenwald, skiing on the Hochrindl or in the Kleinwalsertal – and the farm shop in the village for the New Year's Eve shopping on the 30th.

Walk up, laugh down – on the Hochrindl the sledding run is even floodlit in the evening, in the Zillertal and around the Karwendel it is a few minutes to the run. Sleds can be borrowed from many hosts.

From the balcony, from the bench in front of the hut or from the hot pot in the snow: the sun sets behind the mountains, inside the table is laid and the stove is warm. The evening belongs to you – fondue, raclette or whatever comes from the farm next door.

A week with a fixed arrival day
Over the turn of the year almost all hosts rent by the week, usually with arrival on 27 or 28 December. That way you have New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at the hut – and the exact period is stated for every accommodation.
Sparklers up here, rockets in the valley
On the mountain you celebrate quietly: sparklers and a glass at the door, the fireworks of the villages in the valley you watch from above – without the noise right in your ear. That keeps the winter forest quiet for deer and stag, and you have the best view.
Winter tyres and a little time
Most huts you reach by car to the door. At some the car stays in the valley and the host picks you up with a tractor or snow groomer – this is stated for every hut and for many guests it is the nicest part of the journey.

New Year in the Austrian Alps: fireworks, ski holiday and a quiet start to the new year
New Year's Eve in the hut instead of on the dance floor
New Year's in Austria can be loud – the open-air party with DJ and live music in Ischgl, the gala in Kitzbühel, the Mooserwirt on the Arlberg. In a hut you celebrate your own way: dinner by the wood stove, a torchlight walk through the snow and at midnight the fireworks over the valley from the terrace. On New Year's Day the Vienna New Year's Concert plays on the radio while breakfast lasts a little longer.
New Year ski holidays from the hut
The ski resorts of Tyrol and Salzburg are close to our huts: Mayrhofen and the Zillertal from the Breitberg Alm, Hochoetz and Obergurgl in the Ötztal, the family pistes around Innsbruck from the Karwendel huts, Lake Achensee half an hour away. A ski holiday over New Year works for skiers and beginners on the nursery slopes alike – and the toboggan run or a gondola ride to the sun terrace for everyone else.
Sauna, spa and a cosy evening
Several of our huts have a private sauna or hot pot – after the last ski day of the year the best place to be. The Tyrolean New Year's Eve tradition of Rauhnächte, the silence of the snowy mountains and a festive table with the family: a traditional New Year that Austrians themselves love.

What is the minimum stay over New Year's Eve?
Usually a week with a fixed arrival day on 27 or 28 December. That way you have New Year's Eve and New Year's Day at the hut. The exact minimum stay is stated for every accommodation.
Can you set off fireworks at the hut?
On the mountain you celebrate with sparklers and punch at the door – the fireworks of the villages in the valley you watch from above, without any noise in your ear. That keeps the winter forest quiet for the animals. What applies at your hut, we tell you before booking.
Can you get to the hut by car in winter?
At most huts yes, right to the door. At some the car stays in the valley and the host picks you up with a tractor or snow groomer. This is stated for every hut – winter tyres are always part of it in winter.
Is there snow at the huts at New Year's Eve?
Many of our huts lie between 900 and 1,900 metres – there it is usually deep winter around the turn of the year. Every hut states its altitude, and we tell you what it usually looks like on site.
Can you celebrate New Year's Eve at the hut self-catering?
Yes, all our huts are self-catering huts with their own kitchen. With the big shop on 30 December you are supplied over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, and at many farms there are eggs, milk, bread and bacon straight from the farm.
