How many people does the Oberbrixen Hut sleep?

One to six people across 120 m². That makes it suitable for families and for two couples who want to rent a hut in the Salzburg region together.

Yes, up to two dogs. There are meadows and woodland all around the hut – running free is no problem, because you are on your own up here.

In a sunny, secluded spot at 960 m above Bischofshofen in the Pongau, looking across to the Hochkönig and the Tennengebirge. A working farm is being run next door.

Is the hut bookable all year round?

Yes. In winter Mühlbach–Hochkönig with its 120 km of pistes is 13 km away; in summer the hut is a starting point for walking in the Pongau.

Are you looking for a hut that simply does you good – sunny, quiet, with a wide view and enough space to really come to rest? The Oberbrixen Hütte near Bischofshofen is 250 years old, homely and warm – and lies on one of the sunniest spots the Pongau has to offer. Lovingly restored by hand by Anita and Rupert – your hosts.

You arrive, park outside the door, and the first thing you see is the Salzburg mountain world in its full breadth – the Tennengebirge, the Hochkönig, the valley below. You breathe in the fresh mountain air and can almost already sense your Hüttenglück . Up here, where the sun comes early and stays in the evening, it quickly becomes quiet in your head.

Inside: couch, bright kitchen-living room, three bedrooms

On 120 m² you will find a living area with a couch to sink into, a bright kitchen-living room with a dining table and a view, plus three bedrooms with double beds for up to 6 people. Two rooms have normal ceiling height, the third on the upper floor a charmingly low ceiling height of 190 cm – typical for a 250-year-old hut. Bathroom with shower and separate WC. Cooking is done on a wood-burning range or an electric stove. Oven, dishwasher, fully automatic coffee machine, WiFi – everything is there.

Outside: sauna barrel, hot pot, mountain view and farm

After a day of hiking or skiing: into the sauna barrel – for your sole use –, out into the hot pot, and then listen into the silence with a glass of wine. The large terrace with barbecue and garden furniture looks out onto the Tennengebirge and Hochkönig. Dogs are welcome, and at the neighbouring farm of Anita and Rupert there is active farming: cows, chickens, farm cats – not a petting farm, but everyday life. On request, Anita's home-baked bread with jam and fresh eggs from the farm awaits you on arrival – just let us know with your enquiry.

Summer & winter at the centre of Ski amadé

In summer: over 100 hiking routes, 160 km of mountain bike trails, the Liechtensteinklamm and the Eisriesenwelt Werfen. In winter: the Mühlbach–Hochkönig ski area with 120 km of pistes 13 km away, plus St. Johann, Dienten, Maria Alm in the Ski amadénetwork. Bischofshofen – annual venue of the Vierschanzentournee– is 8 km away.

The Oberbrixen Hütte lies 8 km outside Bischofshofen, in Haidberg at 960 m – reachable by car all year round and, thanks to Bischofshofen's ÖBB connection, easily manageable by train too.

A10 Tauernautobahn to exit Bischofshofen, then towards Haidberg.
From Salzburg approx. 50 min., from München approx. 2 hrs, from Wien approx. 3.5 hrs.

🚆 By train

The ÖBB main line Salzburg–Villach stops directly in Bischofshofen – Tauernbahn junction.
