Our huts in the Salzburger Land
Two old huts standing on their own above Bischofshofen – the Oberbrixen Hütte with 250 years and the Berghütte Artlieb with 420 years of history, both for up to six people, both with a sauna barrel and a hot pot. Dogs are welcome.

Mountains, water, culture and cooking – what the Salzburger Land stands for
The Hochkönig and the Tennengebirge, gorges and waterfalls, castles and the city of Salzburg – and in the evening Kasnocken or Salzburger Nockerl from your own kitchen. Here, in peace, is what waits around your hut in the Salzburger Land.
In the south of the state lies the Hohe Tauern National Park with the Grossvenediger, the Kitzsteinhorn and the Krimml waterfalls; in the north the Hochkönig rises above the Salzach valley. Between them the Tennengebirge, the Dachstein and the alpine meadows of the Pongau. Around Mühlbach am Hochkönig, Maria Alm and Dienten the Königsweg leads across the pastures – full of views and with no climbing.

Gorges, lakes and waterfalls
The Liechtensteinklamm near St. Johann im Pongau is one of the deepest gorges in the Alps, and the Kitzlochklamm and the Seisenbergklamm in the Salzburg Saalachtal are just as spectacular. At the Zeller See in Zell am See you swim and cycle in summer, and there are the mountain lakes of the Gastein valley and the Krimml waterfalls in the Oberpinzgau.

Castles, palaces and the city of Salzburg
Hohenwerfen Castle watches over Werfen with its birds of prey show, and right beside it lies the Eisriesenwelt, the largest ice cave in the world. The city of Salzburg with the Hohensalzburg fortress, Mozart's birthplace, the festival and Hellbrunn Palace is a good forty minutes by train from Bischofshofen – a fine plan for a rainy day.

The villages around
The Pongau strings together Bischofshofen, St. Johann, Wagrain, Altenmarkt, Flachau, Goldegg and the Gastein valley with Bad Hofgastein and Bad Gastein. In the Pinzgau come Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Leogang, Kaprun and Mittersill. Much of it lies half an hour to an hour away – one outing a day is plenty, and the rest is alp.

Kasnocken, Nockerl and the farm shop in the valley
Salzburg Kasnocken with mountain cheese, Bauernkrapfen, Kaiserschmarrn and, for dessert, Salzburger Nockerl: the cooking is hearty and to the point. Bischofshofen and St. Johann have farm shops, a baker and a weekly market. Since you cook for yourselves at the hut, it is worth doing the first shop down in the valley – up top the view out of the window is enough.

Ski amadé and the winter
From Bischofshofen, Ski amadé lies at the door: Wagrain, Flachau, Alpendorf, Zauchensee and Obertauern belong to it, as do the Gastein valley and the Hochkönig. Add toboggan runs, ski tours across the alpine meadows and cross-country loops in the valley. After a day on the slopes the sauna barrel and the hot pot are waiting outside the hut – in the open air, with the mountains in view.

How to reach the Salzburger Land
TRAIN
Railjet to Bischofshofen
The Tauern railway Salzburg–Villach stops right in Bischofshofen. From the station it is around eight kilometres to the hut – a short ride by taxi.
CAR
A10 Tauern motorway
Bischofshofen exit, then up to the hut. Winter tyres are required from 1 November to 15 April; we tell you beforehand what the access looks like in snow.
ON SITE
Bus and guest card
Regional buses connect Bischofshofen with St. Johann, Werfen and Mühlbach; in winter the Ski amadé ski buses run on a regular clock.
