Waldhüttl, Karwendel
20 m² at the edge of the forest with a fireplace and a barbecue spot – the quietest place we have.
See the hutNo neighbouring house, no through road, no shared terrace. Six of our huts stand on their own: from 20 square metres for two to a whole alp for ten. What you hear in the evening is the stove and, if you are lucky, the cattle. We have been to every one of them and we will tell you honestly how far the last house is.
From the smallest to the largest – each let to one party at a time.

See the hut
On its own above Hall-Wattens, with a private sauna – and still reachable by train.
See the hut
No road leads here: 30 to 45 minutes on foot from the farm, then nothing but the Hohe Tauern.
See the hut
420 years alone on the slope above Bischofshofen, with a sauna barrel and a hot tub outside.
See the hut
Above the Inn valley with a sauna and a fenced garden – room for a family or a group of friends.
See the hut
A whole alp for up to ten people, with a tiled stove and a view down the valley.
See the hut„Secluded" is one of those words every holiday portal uses. Ours has a test behind it: we have stood at each of these houses and looked around. If another building was in sight, or a road ran past the door, the hut does not appear on this page.
Secluded is not the same as remote. At most of these huts the valley is ten to twenty minutes away. You can do a big shop and be back before the stove has warmed the room.
Secluded is not the same as uncomfortable. All six have a full kitchen, hot water and a wood stove. Four have a sauna. What you give up is neighbours, not comfort.
Secluded means the whole house is yours. We never let a hut to two parties at the same time. There is no shared terrace, no shared sauna and no one else in the corridor.
For two the Waldhüttl in the Karwendel is the smallest and quietest thing we have: 20 m², a fireplace, a barbecue spot and the walking trail at the door. The Kochhäusl in the Tux Alps adds a private sauna and can be reached by train.
For a group, the Breitberg Alm in the Zillertal sleeps ten on its own alp, and the Alpenrehblick above Vomp takes seven with a sauna and a fenced dog garden.
We know how steep the last stretch of road is, where the mobile signal drops out and how long the stove takes. Ask us before you book – that is the part of this job we actually enjoy.
With us it means: no neighbouring house in sight, no through road past the door, and the hut is let to one party at a time. It does not mean you are hours from civilisation – at most of them the valley is fifteen minutes away.
Yes. The Waldhüttl in the Karwendel is 20 m² built for two, and the Kochhäusl in the Tux Alps takes two to four. Both stand on their own, both have the walking trail at the door.
Not with us. All six have a proper kitchen, hot water and a wood stove; four have a sauna. Secluded describes where the house stands, not what is inside it.
To the Kochhäusl, yes – train and then a short transfer. The Zarze Almhütte needs a car to the farm and then a 30 to 45 minute walk. For the others we will tell you honestly before you book.
It differs. The Zarze Almhütte runs on solar power and deliberately has no wi-fi, though there is mobile reception. Most of the others have wi-fi. It is stated on each property page.
At all six, usually for a small fee per night. The Alpenrehblick has a fenced dog garden, and at the Waldhüttl and the Breitberg Alm the meadow starts at the door.
Tell us how many of you there are and whether you want to park at the door or walk up – we will tell you which of the six fits.
