Kochhäusl am Wattenberg

Romantic mountain hut with sauna in den Tuxer Alpen · 2–4 people · bookable all year round

📍 Austria · Tirol · Hall-Wattens · Wattenberg · Tuxer Alpen · 🥾 on the Adlerweg & Traumpfad München-Venedig

Outside the door a fountain trough with herbs, behind the door a Swedish stove that has already warmed up. The Kochhäusl stands on the Wattenberg, in the middle of the Tuxer Alpen, a few hundred metres of altitude above the Inntal. The name is not an invention of marketers – people really did cook here, back when it was not yet a hut for guests. Today it is exactly that: a place for two to four people that looks small from the outside and feels exactly right from the inside. Next door sheep in the pasture, opposite the Karwendel on the horizon, in between a garden, a sun terrace and the feeling of being in an absolutely secluded location without being remote.

Romantic mountain hut with sauna for 2 to 4 people

In the separate bedroom a double bed, in the living area a sofa bed for one more adult or two children. The kitchen is fully equipped – stove, refrigerator, coffee machine, pots, cutlery – and the sauna with the scent of Swiss stone pine awaits the evening, when you come back tired from your tour. Bathroom with hot water, cot on request, bed linen and towels included. Josef and Maria, your hosts, are not far if you need them – but mostly you do not hear them, only the sheep, the wind and the wood in the Swedish stove. In summer you park 100 m, in winter 200 m from the hut. The last few metres on foot are already part of arriving.

Right on the Tiroler Adlerweg and on the Traumpfad München-Venedig

From the Kochhäusl you set off on two of Europe's most famous long-distance hiking trails: the Traumpfad München-Venedig and the Tiroler Adlerweg towards the Lizumer Hütte (8 km, approx. 2 hrs). Both start right outside the door. In summer, mountain tours to the Glungezer summit (2,677 m)await, mountain bike routes through the Tuxer Alpen, swimming in the Baggersee Wattens. In winter it becomes an insider tip for ski tours in the Wattener Lizum, for a day's skiing at the family Wildstättlift Wattenberg or for sunny fun on the pistes in the Glungezer ski area (8 km). The Kreuztaxen toboggan run starts right at the Wattenberg.

Hut holiday in the Hall-Wattens holiday region – all year round

The Kochhäusl can be booked all year round. In spring, when the first crocuses bloom through the remaining snow and the sheep come back to the pasture. In summer, when the mountain air is fragrant and the garden becomes the favourite spot. In autumn, when the larches burn golden and hours in the sauna with a view become routine. In winter, when the snow makes the world quieter and after the tour from the Glungezer you sink into the Swiss stone pine sauna. Four seasons, one hut – and in each one it is a different promise.

Romance for couples. Time out for the small family. A hiking base for everyone who wants to set off on the Adlerweg. Hall in Tirol is 15 km away, Innsbruck you reach in 20 minutes, the Swarovski Kristallwelten Wattens lie 8 km from the door.

Here you hear the sheep bleating, the larches rustling – and nothing else. That is exactly the idea.

Where tradition and Tyrolean mountain romance welcome you.

Frequently asked questions about the Kochhäusl

Does the Kochhäusl have a private sauna?

Yes. The sauna is yours alone – a hut with a sauna in Tyrol, with no other guests in the house.

How many people does the mountain hut sleep?

Two to four people. That makes the Kochhäusl one of the smaller huts we have – good for couples and for three or four.

Can I get to the Kochhäusl without a car?

Yes. The Kochhäusl on the Wattenberg can be reached by train – one of the few secluded huts you do not need a car for.

Is a mountain hut with a dog possible here?

Yes, dogs are welcome. Woodland and alpine meadows start at the door, and the nearest road is far away.

What is there to do around the hut?

The Kochhäusl sits in the Tuxer Alps near Hall-Wattens. In winter there is the small, family-run Wildstättl lift on the Wattenberg; the rest of the year it is walking country straight from the door.
