Which hut is truly cosy for two?

A good hut for two doesn’t have to be tiny. But it shouldn’t feel like an empty group room either. One bedroom, a pleasant seating corner, a usable kitchen and a spot outside are often entirely enough.

Quite honestly: Ten beds are not a romance feature. A hut is allowed to be exactly the right size for two.

Sauna, hot pot or whirlpool – what suits you?

A private sauna is dry, warm and especially pleasant after a hike. A hot pot is usually wood-fired and needs some lead time. A whirlpool is ready faster and often usable year-round – but can come with additional rules or costs.

Private sauna: quiet, uncomplicated and good after active days. Check whether sauna towels and bathrobes are provided.
Hot pot: more hut ritual, less push-button. Heating up takes time and sometimes wood that is charged extra.
Whirlpool: convenient and often usable year-round. Important: private, included and actually ready to use?

Cook yourselves or rather eat out for once?

Cooking together can be one of the best parts of a hut holiday. Provided the kitchen is up to it. Two hobs, one blunt knife and exactly one pot make the evening unnecessarily exciting.

But maybe you don’t want to cook every evening. Then check beforehand how far the Gasthaus, Heuriger (wine tavern) or inn is and whether you’d have to drive. Two kilometres on the map can suddenly get quite long after the second glass of wine.
