Our huts in the Pongau
The Oberbrixen Hütte with 250 years and the Berghütte Artlieb with 420 years of history – both standing on their own above Bischofshofen, both with a sauna barrel and a hot pot. Dogs are welcome.

Liechtensteinklamm
One of the deepest gorges in the Alps: walkways, thundering water and the spectacular helix staircase. Exciting for children if they are sure-footed on steps.
From Bischofshofen across meadows and forests up one of the region’s most beautiful viewpoint mountains – at the top the view stretches from the Hochkönig to the Tauern.
The largest ice cave in the world, high above the Salzach valley: frozen palaces and 1,400 steps. Dress warmly – inside it stays ice-cold even in high summer.
The fortified castle above the Salzach valley – with guided tours, a falconry museum and the birds-of-prey flight show, where eagles glide right over your heads.
The grassy mountain above Bischofshofen is doable even for practised families – at the top await the Heinrich-Kiener-Haus and a panorama from the Hochkönig to the Hohe Tauern.
If you are looking for real altitude metres, you will find them on the Hochkönig – all the way up to the Matrashaus at 2,941 metres. Start early, take the weather forecast seriously and, when in doubt, go with a guide.
At the beginning of January the ski jumping world looks to Bischofshofen – all around await cleared winter paths and quiet places to catch your breath.
That is a good day in the Pongau too: fire up the sauna barrel, warm the hot pot, meadow and forest all around. The farm next door is a working farm.

TRAIN
Railjet to Bischofshofen
The Tauern railway Salzburg–Villach stops in the village; from the station it is around eight kilometres to the hut, best by taxi.
CAR
A10 Tauern motorway
Bischofshofen exit, then up to the hut. Winter tyres are required from 1 November to 15 April.
ON SITE
Bus and ski bus
Regional buses connect Bischofshofen with St. Johann, Werfen and Mühlbach; in winter the Ski amadé ski buses run.
