Three huts where your dog is especially welcome today

Every day we show you three different places from our selection – from the rustic secluded mountain hut to the chalet with a fenced garden. All personally visited, all with clear answers on fencing, grazing livestock and dog fees. All matching huts are listed further down.

Clarified beforehand, relaxed on arrival

This is what we clarify before your booking

Dog-friendly means for us: we know the details – and clarify them for you with the host before you book:

  • How many dogs are allowed?
  • What does the dog cost per night or per stay?
  • Is the garden completely fenced?
  • Do grazing or farm animals live on the property?
  • Do walking paths start right at the house?
  • Is the dog allowed to swim in the stream, pond or lake?
  • Which rules apply in the accommodation?

Well prepared

Relaxed in the mountains with your dog

On alpine trails you will meet cows, sheep or horses. With a little distance and the dog on a short lead this stays relaxed for everyone – in the alpine summer that means: lead within reach, stay calm, never let grazing livestock come between you and your dog.

Plan the hikes with your dog according to his fitness, his age and the temperature – that way every tour stays a pleasure for both of you. Water always belongs in the backpack, so you are well supplied even where no stream is flowing.

“A summit does not run away. Your dog usually shows you earlier than you notice yourself when it is enough.”

Travelling from abroad? What applies for the pet passport and vaccinations is stated in the official EU travel information for pets.

Mountain hut

Mountain hut with a dog: what is different up there

In a rustic mountain hut or alpine hut your dog is often freer than anywhere else – no neighbour behind the wall, meadows and forests right outside the door, room to romp in summer and winter alike. Good to know: in summer grazing livestock roams the alpine meadows – there you simply put your dog on the lead. And where the garden is fenced, we tell you beforehand.

That is exactly what we are here for: we know every hut ourselves and tell you honestly before booking where the garden is closed, where cows graze and which mountain hut suits you and your dog.

By altitude

Dog-friendly mountain huts in Austria – alpine, cosy and close to nature

A hut holiday in Austria with your dog means meadows outside the door, nature all around and views of the surrounding mountains. You will find huts from 760 to 1,880 m above sea level with us – and dogs are warmly welcome.

1,700 to 1,880 m

Alpine in the Hohe Tauern and the Nockberge

The Zarze Almhütte at 1,880 m in the Hohe Tauern National Park: 30 m², entirely on its own, with room for your dog to roam. The Pietschacher Almhütte at 1,700 m in the Nockberge Biosphere Park in Carinthia has 100 m² of living space and in winter sits right on the ski slope.

760 to 1,100 m

Cosy hut holidays with a parlour stove

The Artliebhütte and the Oberbrixen Hütte at 960 m in the Salzburger Land: 120 m² each, plenty of room for six people and two dogs. The Breitberg Alm at 1,100 m in the Zillertal is yours alone, for groups of up to ten with up to three dogs and a tiled stove in the parlour. In the Mostviertel you have the Abenteurer-Hütte at around 1,000 m and the Mühlenhütte by its private pond at 760 m.

By the Karwendel

Tyrolean huts in quiet, secluded spots

The Kochhäusl alone on a meadow on the Wattenberg with a wood stove in the parlour, the Waldhüttl, almost on its own, and the Alpenrehblick on the Vomperberg: dog holidays in the Alps of Tyrol. Plus the holiday apartments Waldsicht and Pferdeheimat in Gnadenwald with a large garden by the forest.

Every one of these huts is a place where your four-legged friend comes along – for an unforgettable holiday with your dog. How many dogs may come is noted for each hut. You book through urlaubshuetten.com, and we pass your request to real hosts.

Dog friendly accommodation in Austria: holidays with dogs in the Alps, summer and winter

01

Holiday home, cabin or lodge – pets allowed

A holiday with your dog works best where the dog is really welcome: in a rustic alpine cabin with the forest at the door, in a spacious holiday home with a fenced garden, in a comfortable chalet or a lodge in the Kleinwalsertal in Vorarlberg. Our dog friendly cottages and chalets in Austria are personally visited, and what applies for your dog – fence, farm animals, dog fee – is stated with every accommodation.

02

Summer: forests and meadows, water and mountain air

Holidays in the Alps with your dog are easiest in summer: forests and meadows to explore, a stream or the private pond of the Mühlenhütte to swim in, hiking trails from the door and cable cars that take dogs up the mountain. Plenty of space, peace and quiet and stunning views – a relaxing holiday for both of you.

03

Winter holiday with dog near the ski resorts

A winter holiday with dog is lovely too: the ski resorts of Tyrol, Salzburg and Carinthia are close to our huts – one goes skiing, one takes the dog for a winter walk in the snow, and in the evening everyone sits by the wood stove. The Pietschacher Almhütte in the Nockberge even has the piste in front of the door, sauna and wellness area included.

04

The right holiday cabin for Austria with your dog

Tyrol, Salzburg, Carinthia, East Tyrol and Lower Austria – our holiday regions with dog friendly accommodation cover the Austrian Alps from the Karwendel to the Nockberge. Tell us what kind of dog is coming along and whether you prefer seclusion or a farm with hosts next door. We know every house personally and tell you honestly where your dog has space to explore.

Frequently asked

What you should know before booking

Are dogs allowed in all the accommodations shown?
Yes. This page lists only the huts and holiday homes where dogs are expressly welcome. The conditions (number, fees, rules) differ from house to house and are listed with every hut.
How many dogs may I bring and what does it cost?
Each host decides that themselves – one or two dogs and a small surcharge per dog and night or per stay are usual. The details are listed with the respective hut; if they are missing, we clarify them directly with the host before your booking.
Are there fenced gardens?
Yes – the Alpenrehblick by the Karwendel has a completely fenced dog garden. At the other houses the range goes from open meadows to alpine locations; what applies is stated on the hut's card.
May my dog swim in the pond or lake?
At the Mühlenhütte in the Mostviertel a private pond belongs to the house, where your dog is expressly allowed to swim. At public bathing lakes the local rules apply – there are often dedicated dog areas.
What applies with grazing animals and wildlife?
In the alpine summer you share the trails with cows, sheep and horses. Keep your distance, lead your dog under control, especially around mother cows with calves. In many places in Austria a lead or muzzle requirement applies under state law – with a lead you are on the safe side everywhere.
What if my dog has special needs?
Tell us before booking – whether an anxious dog, a senior or a puppy. We know the houses personally and tell you honestly which one fits. That way you find the house where your dog feels at home from the start.

You know when you want to go – we find the hut where your dog is welcome

Tell us briefly what kind of dog is coming along and when you want to go. We know every house personally and tell you honestly where you are both in good hands.
