Mühlenhütte am Privatteich

Hut at a private pond for 1–5 people · 760 m in the Pielachtal/Mostviertel · summer hut April–November

📍 Austria · Niederösterreich · Mostviertel · Pielachtal · Schwarzenbach an der Pielach · 🦆 Private pond with rowing boat

A water wheel that still turns. A pond with a rowing boat. An attic that smells of wood. The Mühlenhütte lies at 760 metres above Schwarzenbach an der Pielach, in the Lower Austrian Pielachtal – in one of those places where the days become longer because they have less to do.

You park the car at Susanne's, walk the last 150 metres through the grass. Birds sing, the little brook babbles. Perhaps the sheep are already standing at the edge of the path. Then it lies before you: the small wooden hut, the old water wheel, the silvery gleaming pond in front of it. Nothing is loud. Nothing has to be fast.

Inside: parlour, wood stove and an attic that smells good

In the parlour a wood stove, seating corner and couch await – everything you need for an evening with a book or a board game. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathroom modern with shower and WC. To sleep you go up into the attic of fragrant wood – space for up to four people, with the sloping walls that every good mill hut has. You will find a fifth sleeping place downstairs – in case you arrive as a small family or group of friends.

Outside: private pond, rowing boat and four paws on the jetty

In front of the hut: your own pond with a rowing boat for exclusive use. In summer paddle and splash, in autumn see the golden trees in the water. Your dog is welcome too – open meadows, shady forest paths, and swimming in the pond is part of it. Sometimes Susanne's sheep come by and graze around the hut – a picture that cannot be staged.

In the middle of the Pielachtal – also called Dirndltal

The hiking trailbegins outside the hut door. The Pielachtal is also called Dirndltal – because of the cornelian cherries that bloom white and yellow in April and May and bear red fruit in autumn. The Nixhöhle Frankenfels is 14.4 km away and the Pielachtal cycle path begins 3 km down the valley. With the Mariazellerbahn – a historic narrow-gauge railway – you arrive gently: Schwarzenbach station 10.5 km, a taxi connection is recommended.

Water wheel, private pond, attic – the Mühlenhütte is a hut for stopping.

Where the water wheel turns, time goes more slowly.
