Sturdy mountain boots for the hike
01Clothing

In the mountains the weather can change quickly – with the right clothing you are prepared for everything.

  • Comfortable hiking clothing and sturdy hiking boots
  • Rain jacket and weatherproof clothing
  • Warm jumpers or fleece jackets for cool evenings
  • Hat, scarf and gloves – even in summer it can get chilly
  • Cosy clothing for relaxed hours in the hut

Our tip: The layering principle! Several thin layers keep you warm and are flexible.

Regional food for self-catering
02Food & drink

In most huts you are self-catering. You can prepare a lot in advance or buy it locally.

  • Staples: bread, pasta, rice, cold cuts, cheese, fruit and vegetables
  • Spices & basics: salt, pepper, sugar, vinegar, oil
  • Drinks: coffee, tea, milk, water – or a good wine for the evening
  • Snacks: muesli bars or chocolate for on the go
  • Fresh products: many huts offer milk, butter or eggs – just ask!
  • Barbecue supplies: charcoal and matches, if there is a barbecue

Our tip: Roughly plan your meals in advance – that saves space in the rucksack and makes packing easier.

Toiletries for the hut holiday
03Hygiene

Even at the hut you only need the essentials.

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste and biodegradable soap
  • Towels – there are often some in the hut, check beforehand
  • Sun cream with a high sun protection factor
  • Insect repellent against mosquitoes and ticks
  • A small travel first-aid kit with plasters and painkillers

Our tip: In rustic huts, a camping shower or washing bowl can be practical.

Binoculars and leisure items
04Leisure & entertainment

So it never gets boring – a few things for cosy and active hours.

  • Books or magazines for relaxing
  • Games such as cards or board games for convivial evenings
  • Hiking maps or binoculars for the surroundings
  • Camera or phone for souvenir photos
  • Sports equipment such as hiking poles or swimwear (depending on the region)

Our tip: Great hiking trails often start right at the hut – ask the hosts for their favourite routes.

Packed hiking rucksack
05Practical accessories

A few things must not be missing under any circumstances.

  • Torch or head torch – including spare batteries
  • Rucksack for day trips and hikes
  • Sleeping bag or bed linen, depending on the hut’s equipment
  • Rubbish bags – huts often have no waste collection
  • Debit/credit card and cash – many huts do not take cards

Our tip: Check the equipment in advance – crockery and cooking utensils are often already there.
