Our highest hut, in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, for up to four persons. From the farm you walk 30 to 45 minutes uphill – and that is exactly why it is so quiet up there. Electricity comes from the sun, hot water from the wood stove, cooling is done with spring water. Bookable from spring into autumn.

Alpine hut without compromise: 100 m² on a 19-hectare alpine meadow in the Nock Mountains Biosphere Park, for up to eight persons. Four bedrooms in stone pine, one with a four-poster bed, plus a private Finnish sauna. All year by car to the door, parking at the house – the alpine hut in Carinthia for everyone who likes it comfortable.

A few hundred metres above the Inn valley, sheep next door, the Karwendel opposite: small alpine hut for two to four with wood-burning stove, private sauna and sun terrace. From the car park it is 100 to 200 metres on foot, bookable all year, also reachable by train.

Holiday on the alpine pasture: what makes a night in an alpine hut
You cater for yourselves
Kitchen, crockery, bed linen and towels are there – you bring the food. If you do a big shop in the valley on arrival day, you have everything up there and all the time for the alpine pasture.
To the packing listHeating is done with wood
Tiled stove, wood stove, stove for the hot water: on the alpine pasture, making a fire is part of the day. That is the part guests tell about most often afterwards – and the reason why it gets so quiet in the evening.
It is cooler up there
On the alpine pasture it cools down noticeably in the evening, even in midsummer, and the weather changes faster than in the valley. A warm layer, sturdy shoes and a rain jacket belong in the luggage – then the cool evenings are a pleasure too.

Alpine huts in Austria: mountain huts and alpine pastures, explained honestly
Alpine club huts and unmanaged huts
Huts in Austria come in many forms. The alpine club huts of the Austrian Alpine Club and the German Alpine Club (DAV) are overnight accommodation for hikers and mountaineers on multi-day treks – with opening times, a hut sleeping bag, reciprocal rights for alpine club members and reduced accommodation rates. Unmanaged huts are self-catering shelters for the experienced climber. Both are part of the Austrian alpine experience – and both are different from what we offer.
Our alpine huts: your own place on the mountain pasture
The alpine huts on this page belong to alpine farmers and are rented as a whole: the Breitberg Alm on the Fügenberg in the Zillertal, the Pietschacher Almhütte in the Nockberge, the Zarze in the Hohe Tauern. You have the whole hut atmosphere – wood stove, cosy stube, the panoramic view from the bench, the cows on the mountain meadows next door – without sharing a dormitory. Most are accessible by car, the Zarze with a walk-in of half an hour.
Mountain activities from the door
Hut hiking and alpine tours in the Tyrolean Alps, mountain biking on the forest road, a trek across the high alpine meadows of the Hohe Tauern or a day in the Ötztal and the Wilder Kaiser: the impressive mountain environment starts at the hut. In the evening the regional delicacies from the farm are on the table – Speck, cheese and homemade cakes from the hosts.
Hospitality of the alpine village
Our hosts live in the alpine village below or on the farm next door. They know the places to sleep, the snack stations on the way and the weather – and they tell you honestly what the hut has and what it deliberately leaves out. That way your stay in a rustic mountain hut in the Austrian Alps starts with hot water for tea and stunning panoramic views.

Can you stay one night in an alpine hut with you?
Our alpine huts are rented for several nights – at the Zarze Almhütte from two nights, in summer usually a week. That gives you time to arrive up there. For a single night on a hike, a serviced hut is the right choice.
Which of your alpine huts is the highest?
The Zarze Almhütte in Matrei in East Tyrol at 1,880 metres, in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Next comes the Pietschacher Almhütte at 1,700 metres in the Nock Mountains in Carinthia.
Is there an alpine hut for 2 persons?
Yes. The Zarze Almhütte can be booked from one person and is designed for up to four people, the Waldhüttl at the Karwendel with its 20 m² is tailored entirely to two. Both belong to you alone, even if you arrive as a couple.
May the dog come up to the alpine hut?
Yes, dogs are welcome at all alpine huts, usually for a small fee per night. At the Zarze Almhütte and the Breitberg Alm the alpine meadow lies right at the door.
What do I need to bring for staying in an alpine hut?
Food and drinks for the whole stay, warm clothing, sturdy shoes and a headlamp. Bed linen, towels, crockery and cookware are there. For the Zarze Almhütte, pack so that you can carry the luggage 30 to 45 minutes uphill.
Is there electricity and internet at the alpine hut?
That differs from hut to hut. The Zarze Almhütte runs on a solar system and deliberately has no Wi-Fi – there is mobile reception. The Pietschacher Almhütte has Wi-Fi, satellite TV and sauna, the Breitberg Alm green electricity and electric radiators in the bedrooms.
