Farm stay in Tyrol – what that means with us
A farm stay in Tyrol does not mean a holiday park with a petting zoo with us. These are places to stay on farms where the work continues: with livestock, with meadows, with forest. Anyone taking a farm holiday here lives next to the business and not in a stage set.
Our nine places on the farm are spread over three Tyrolean locations: the Alpbachtal, or Tyrolean lake district, Gnadenwald above the Inn valley and the Karwendel range. All are bookable all year round, and we have visited all of them ourselves.
How a farm stay differs from an ordinary holiday house
The difference is not in the fittings but in the surroundings. On a farm something is going on in the morning. It smells of hay, not of hotel breakfast. At many of our farms children are allowed to watch the feeding. And the hosts are not a reception desk but people who were in the barn at six.
Several of our places used to be old farm buildings. The former grain stores – Troadkammer and Roggnkammer in Tyrolean dialect – are today two small holiday apartments for two people each. A Zuahaus, that is the small second house next to the farmhouse, is a holiday apartment for five.
Frequently asked questions about farm stays
Farm stay in Tyrol with a dog – is that possible?
Yes. In total, 14 of our places take dogs, several of them on the farm. The hut finder shows them via the filter "Dogs allowed".
Are there products straight from the farm?
At nine of our places regional products are available on site – milk, eggs, bacon, jam, depending on the farm and the season. The filter is called "Regional products available".
Is a farm stay suitable for families?
22 of our places are marked as child-friendly, 19 expressly for family holidays. On the farm there is the added point that children have something to do outdoors without anyone needing a programme.
When is the best time for a farm stay?
In summer, when the mowing is done and the animals are outside, there is the most going on. In autumn the cattle drive down from the alpine pastures is part of it. In winter it is quiet, but the snow lies right up to the door. All our farms let all year round.
Do you have to help out on the farm?
No. Anyone who wants to may watch or lend a hand – nobody is asked to.
Farm stay with children
22 of our places are marked as child-friendly, 19 expressly for family holidays. On the farm there is the added point that children have something to do outdoors without anyone needing a programme – animals, meadow, tools, space.
Getting there without a car
22 of our places can be reached by train and bus. Especially for the farms in the Inn valley this is realistic: Breitenbach am Inn and Gnadenwald are both close to the railway line.
