Troad. That is what people in Tirol once called what meant security through the winter in a farmhouse: rye, wheat, oats, barley – everything left over from the summer was stored in the Troadkammer. Today you live there. Where the grain once formed the supply, a comfortable double bed now forms the centre – but the word has remained, and with it the idea: a room that holds.
The Troadkammer is on the ground floor of the Zuahaus, which Christina and Jakob newly erected in 2022 with old timber from the 16th century . That is not a marketing trick. Those are beams that saw snow long before anyone printed the word „Tirol" on a postcard. Inside: everything modern – a comfortable double bed, kitchenette, bathroom with a generous shower. Outside: a certified organic farmthat lives its everyday life – and lets you take part, if you want.
Inside: compact, well thought out, modern
The double bed can be converted into two single beds on request – suitable for couples, duos of friends or the spontaneous mother-daughter time out. The kitchenette is fully equipped: oven, mobile induction hob, refrigerator with freezer compartment, microwave, coffee machine, kettle, toaster. The modern bathroom has a generous shower and WC, hand and bath towels included. WiFi, flat-screen TV, bed linen – everything is there. Not an apartment layout, but a piece of house built exactly for two.
Outside: farm within earshot, farmyard within sight
The Troadkammer has its own covered entrance on the east side – with garden chairs, the first coffee and the sun that arrives here first. Whoever needs sun for longer moves to the south-facing terrace, where the light stays until the evening. And next door? Christina and Jakob with their son Jakob Josef. Highland cattle, chickens, ponies, rabbits, sheep, pigs and the dog Ina. Whoever feels like it goes over. Whoever enjoys the sound of the stable from the terrace stays seated. In the middle of the Alpbachtal – with three ski areas within reach
Hiking trails start right outside the door, the Reintalersee is 5 km away, the most beautiful village in Austria (Alpbach) 12 km. In winter you are in the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal-Wildschönauin 15 minutes, in the Wilder Kaiser-Brixentalin 20, in the Zillertal Arenain 25. Back at the house the video-monitored ski room with ski boot heating awaits – whoever has once slipped into dry ski boots knows how to appreciate the comfort. The Schönauer cross-country trail starts 1 km away.
A chamber that was called grain and today holds guests – with the door that you open yourself, and the farm that lives outside.

The Riedhof lies in Glatzham near Breitenbach am Inn – directly reachable by car and almost as comfortably by train. Breitenbach am Inn station is in the village itself, ÖBB Inntalbahn with good connections from Innsbruck and Kufstein.

🌾 What does „Troadkammer" actually mean?
„Troad" is Tyrolean dialect and means grain – rye, wheat, oats and barley. The Troadkammer used to be the storage chamber in the farmhouse in which the grain survived the winter after the harvest. Christina and Jakob kept the name because it carries what makes this small apartment: a room that is connected to the farm – and makes you part of it for a few days.

The Troadkammer has an identically built sister on the same ground floor: the „Roggnkammer" – also for 2 people. Both studios lie directly next to each other – ideal for two couples or duos of friends who travel together but each want their own door. For families with children the larger „d'kloane Mühle" (up to 5 people) in the same house is recommended.
