What can you do in the Alpbachtal?
The Alpbachtal is ten villages between the Inntal and the mountain ridge: Alpbach with its famous wooden architecture, the small glass town of Rattenberg, Kramsach with its warm swimming lakes and quiet villages such as Reith, Brixlegg or Brandenberg.
You can hike through three gorges, swim in the Reintalersee, stroll through old farmhouses at the Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe or take the mountain lifts up the Wiedersbergerhorn. Each destination below has a link to the official provider and a route planner – also handy once you are already there.
Nature & hiking
Outdoors there is enough for many days
Four routes we like to walk ourselves – with an honest note on who they suit.
Kundler Klamm, Tiefenbachklamm und Kaiserklamm
Three gorges in one region: a roaring river, wooden walkways and cool air on hot days. The Kundler Klamm can even be done with a pram. In winter the gorges are closed.
500 kilometres of hiking trails and real Almen
From the leisurely valley path to the working Alm above Alpbach – the valley is a certified hiking region, and the Jause (snack) up top is part of it.
To the Zireiner See in the Rofan
The turquoise mountain lake below the Rofan peaks – one of the most beautiful tours in the area. Sure-footedness and an early start are part of it.
Juppi Zauberwald am Reither Kogel
An adventure trail with stations for climbing, puzzling and marvelling – the hike where children forget they are hiking.

Museum Tiroler Bauernhöfe
37 old farmhouses from all over Tyrol, arranged like a real village in Kramsach – between parlours and stables you suddenly understand how people used to live here.
The glass town of Rattenberg
The smallest town in Austria: a medieval lane, glassblowers at work and cafés to linger in. Easily reached by train or bike.
Lauser-Sauser on the Wiedersbergerhorn
Up with the mountain lift, back down through curves and waves on the Alpine Coaster – the activity children demand twice.

With the mountain lifts up the Wiedersbergerhorn
The Wiedersbergerhornbahn and Reitherkogelbahn take you up without breaking a sweat – panoramic trails, play stations and hut stops await at the top.
Gratlspitz, Großer Galtenberg and Sagtaler Spitzen
Real summit goals for experienced hikers – from the viewpoint mountain Gratlspitz to the Galtenberg, the highest in the valley. Start early and take the weather forecast seriously.
Bike
Off on the bike – and back with a good feeling
Along the Inn cycle path to Rattenberg
Flat along the Inn to the glass town – eat ice cream, watch the glassblowers and roll back at your leisure. Also easy with a bike trailer.
Lakes loop around Kramsach
Cycle from lake to lake – the Reintalersee, Krummsee and Berglsteinersee lie close together. The reward waits on the shore.
By e-bike up to the Almen
Uphill with views and a hut stop – around Alpbach, forest roads lead to working Almen. With an e-bike also suitable for leisure riders.
Lakes
An afternoon by the water almost always fits in
Reintalersee
One of Tyrol's warmest swimming lakes: sunbathing lawns, jetties and mountain views. Entry is included with the Alpbachtal Card – come early on hot weekends.
Krummsee, Berglsteinersee and outdoor pools
If you prefer it quieter, head for the small lakes in the forest or jump into the outdoor pool – the tourist board has the overview.
Winter
When winter begins right outside the hut
Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau
Over 100 kilometres of pistes spread across two valleys – big enough for a week, familiar enough not to get lost.
Sledding and winter hiking
Natural sledding runs and cleared winter paths through snow-covered villages – winter works here even without skis.
Cross-country skiing and ice skating
Groomed cross-country trails in the valley and ice on the lakes – winter at your own pace. The tour planner shows routes and current conditions.
Food & regional shopping
Regional shopping in the Alpbachtal
Hay-milk cheese, Speck, bread and fine brandies are available in the valley directly from the producers. We show you what you can get where – and from which accommodation the route fits especially well.
Alpbachtaler Heumilchkäserei (hay-milk cheese dairy)
In Reith, cheese is made from silage-free hay milk from the farmers next door – from mild semi-hard cheese to tangy Bergkäse for your hut bread.
Glass art and fine food in Rattenberg
In the glass town you will find mouth-blown glasses and small shops with Tyrolean specialities – the souvenir that really is from here.
Farm shops in the district
From the meat and cheese farm to the fine-brandy distillery – the overview of direct marketers shows which farm lies on your way.
