Hut holidays in the Alps: secluded, self-catering and ski huts

Many of our huts in the Alps stand on their own, with no neighbouring house in sight – at the edge of the forest or high above the valley, with a clear view into the mountains. Others sit close to a ski area: ski huts for the winter, some with a toboggan run nearby. In a self-catering hut you bring your supplies and cook in the fully equipped kitchen; if you like it cosy and comfortable, you will also find huts with a sauna and a drive right up to the door. With every hut it says what the access looks like in winter and what is there on site. A good place to start: secluded huts, snow cabin rental, hut with sauna and mountain hut rental.

Mountain huts in Austria: the regions we work in

Our places lie in six regions, and we have seen every one of them ourselves: Tyrol, East Tyrol, SalzburgerLand, Carinthia, Vorarlberg and Lower Austria – from an alm in the Karwendel to the Zillertal and the Stubai valley, from a hut in the Mostviertel to the Kleinwalsertal and the edge of the Hohe Tauern national park. Most of our huts are in Tyrol. We will show huts in Styria and Upper Austria as soon as we have looked at one there ourselves – we would rather name the regions we really know. Mountain cabin or rustic alpine hut: what suits whom

If you want to rent a mountain cabin, you are usually after quiet and a wide view – often on its own, often with a wood stove, rustic and warm. An alpine hut sits higher up, is properly old-fashioned and is a destination in itself in summer as in winter. Chalets in Austria are the other end: more comfort, sauna or hot tub, room for the whole group. Then there are holiday houses for groups and holiday apartments on a farm. Small, charming places for two are as much part of our selection as huts for groups of up to twelve. Which one suits you depends less on the price than on how far you want to withdraw.

Winter holidays and hut holidays with a dog

Many of our huts suit a winter holiday and can be reached by car; some sit close to the lift and the toboggan run as a ski hut, and the winter access is described with each one. Quite a few places welcome dogs – with each one it says whether the dog may sleep in the bedroom and whether there is a fenced garden. Where can I rent a hut in Austria?

With us in Tyrol, East Tyrol, the SalzburgerLand, Carinthia, Vorarlberg and Lower Austria. Most of our huts are in Tyrol – from the Karwendel and the Zillertal to the Stubai valley. We have visited every place ourselves.

What kinds of huts and chalets do you offer?

Alpine huts and mountain cabins, chalets, holiday houses, holiday apartments and apartments on a working farm. The rustic huts often stand on their own, the chalets offer more comfort. With us you always rent the whole place just for you – a staffed alpine club refuge is something different.

How are the huts and chalets equipped?

Every one has a fully equipped kitchen, so you cook for yourselves. Many have a sauna, some a hot tub or whirlpool, most a fireplace or wood stove. What is there is listed with each place – and in the hut finder you can filter for sauna and hot tub.

Are there huts for Christmas, New Year or a ski holiday?

Yes. Many of our huts suit a winter holiday and can be reached by car; some sit close to the lift and the toboggan run. For the holidays we have our own pages on Christmas and New Year in the mountains.

Eine richtig schöne Hütte mit tollem Blick. Der Wohlfühlfaktor ist sehr groß, genau wie die Erholung und Ruhe. Zu zweit hat man genug Platz und alles entspricht den Bildern. Die Wegbeschreibung der Vermieter ist sehr gut. Sehr zu empfehlen!

Die Tiroler Hütte am Karwendelgebirge entsprach genau der Beschreibung, die wir erhalten hatten. Wir fanden das Haus nagelneu, sehr sauber, alles was man braucht im Haus und die Lage top - direkt vor der Tür kann man Tageswanderungen machen. Der Besitzer des Ferienhauses ist unserer Meinung sehr freundlich und er ist wirklich bereit Momente zu opfern, um sicherzustellen, dass wir als Urlauber alles in Ordnung sind.

Wir waren schon zweimal hier und ich fühl mich super wohl hier. Die Aussicht ein Traum, der Standort wunderbar, da er sich mit dem Auto problemlos erreichen lässt. Die Ausstattung der vier Zimmer und zwei Bäder ist für eine "Hütte" völlig in Ordnung. Es gibt Holz für den Kamin wenn es kalt ist und einen Grill für die warmen Abende draußen. Daniel der Besitzer ist immer sehr hilfsbereit bei Fragen.
